Summary
„Monsieur le Maire,“ Javert bowed to him upon entering. „My name is Javert. I report for duty.“ Then he took his first proper look at him and a row of emotions flashed across his face. Recognition. Disbelief. Doubt. Anger. Cold judgement. Valjean knew his hopes had been foolish. Of course he recognised him!
Desperate to not be arrested, Valjean begs Javert to let him prove to him that he has become an honest man. Javert, longing for the connection they once had, agrees against his better judgement.

Valjean is soaked through and cold, maybe Javert can warm him up.
„24601, with me.“ Javert touched his arm with his baton and walked after him, directing him with little prods of the baton.
„I’m not a fucking animal,“ Valjean growled when they were out of earshot, tired and cold and at the end of his patience. „Just tell me where you want me to go.“
His shoulders tensed inadvertently. Depending on Javert’s mood, he might get a blow for that, but he just said, „Storage rooms.“
They walked on in silence, Javert unlocked the door and ushered him in, closing it behind them. The day had been murky and in here, the room only lighted by narrow ventilation slits, it was almost completely dark. Javert lighted a lamp, making the shadows race into the corners.
„Need me to push around some crates, eh?“ Valjean said, wiping the rain from his face with his sopping wet smock.
„Something like that.“
Javert huffed a laugh and divested himself of his hat and coat.Series

Valjean carried the sticks they hadn’t needed back to the shed. When he stepped out, he paused for a moment to watch Javert. He was bending down to draw out some carrots for their evening meal and Valjean took the time to admire his tall form and seeing the muscles move under his shirt. Hot desire pooled in his belly, his cock stirred. He wasn’t sure if he’d made a noise or if Javert had noticed him staring with that sharp instinct of his, but he turned around.

In the dim light of the street lamps he saw the form of a man stand on the bridge. Valjean stopped short. He knew him. He’d have known him anywhere, so long had he haunted his dreams and his every waking step. Javert climbed on the parapet, staring down into the dark waters of the Seine.
When Javert doesn't turn up to arrest him, Valjean is worried he's found out about his other apartment and will encounter Cosette there. He finds him on the parapet of a bridge, ready to end his life and what else can he do than to stop him and take the distraught man home with him?
