Summary

His friends tease him his family is complicated and he's on the news a lot more than he ever expected to be.
Through it all, Nathaniel can't help but be disappointed that he couldn't have a normal school year.

Hi! so me and a friend who we will call 'Flicker' for the time being. were like COOKING this au for a while. we have a doc with over 30 tabs of planning and descriptions and orders and games and we were like going at it. and then November 30th happened..........and yeah.
but we had put so so so so much effort into this au that we didn't want to waste it! so i'm posting it now and reclaiming this work. cause i had fun with it, and i think other people might enjoy reading it too!
---------(actual summary below)---------5 survivors were all that were left after round one. Their reward for winning? a single full year of freedom.
Before being dragged back down to the same high school they had believed they had graduated from.
With all their old classmates equally confused and freshly revived having no memory after the point they died, tensions are already running high. how would they manage to get all 16 of them out if only 5 survived last time?!
but to make matters worse. this year there's underclassmen joining them. A whole new group of 16 who has no prior experience with the game. Can they be trusted? will they help aid in escape or break quicker than the first?

The fifth and final trial is over. Monomoko kept silent as the remaining students doomed themselves.
As the final student leaves to grab a familiar gun, she realises that all 16 of the students who woke up here, along with their stories, will rot and die here.
…They deserve better than this, she thinks.
If she can let even one person come home to their lives and live on peacefully, if she can let there be justice for everyone who died, that’s enough.
Enough to make her try this one more time.
…But not everyone comes back.
Hasegawa Ken is not here.
Not physically, at least.
But he’s sure to haunt this version of the session. For better or worse.
OR: Hasegawa wins Chapter 5 and kills himself.
Monomoko resets the timeline, but he does not come back with the other 15 students.
Instead, he’s a ghost, dead set on watching Kamimura, the only one who can see him, and the only one to retain his memories from the original timeline.

They were finally free. The sky had returned to its natural blue, the ground closed up, and the fog of black smoke no longer hung over Hawkins. Mike had to keep reminding himself of that fact. Everything was perfect.
Maybe too perfect.
OR
Post season 5 fix-it, where everyone was Vecna'ed and the world did "end," and now they have to figure out how to get back home. But the way to get home might suck more than if they were to stay in the messed up, distorted version of Hawkins. At least for Mike.

Will Byers — Zombie boy. Moved to California but came back after the earthquake. He wasn’t here for Jason’s cult accusations, but he can’t like me very much, seeing as I landed a pretty nasty punch on his friend in sophomore year.
Chance’s eyes lingered a little longer than they should have as he walked in. If he were being completely honest, he always found Will the most… intriguing, out of that group—something about the mystery that came with being “dead” for a week. Chance sometimes caught a glimpse of him working in an empty art room after practice, or at games, quietly cheering Lucas on.
Before Chance knew it, Will was in front of him, sliding a VHS across the counter.
OR
Chance gets a job at Family Video for the summer, and Will is a regular.
