Because of reasons, he doesn’t send the letter until the day of his departure from the Lonely Mountain and thus does not know if the Burglar wants to even see him again.
But he has asked for a sign whether he is welcome in Bilbo’s home (and heart): for the hobbit to tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree atop his smial.
And now he dreads what he will find when he finally crests that last hill between Hobbiton and Bag End… -

Dio’s eyes widen incrementally as he says that, however the expression is quickly replaced by a polite smile.
“Diego Brando.”
Diego. Jonathan keeps a smile on, but his mind is spinning. This is not his Dio. In fact, by all accounts, his Dio seems to have disappeared. Not only that, but no one else seems troubled about it.
