Summary
Every solution in Mike’s life has failed him somehow and sure it might be dramatic to come to this conclusion over glasses, or chairs, but he seriously hasn’t felt an ounce of hope since 1987 no matter how desperately he tries to pretend he has.
Except for right now.
At 12:15 on November 6th, Mike finally finished his task for the evening: typing out every single memory he has of his best friend. This will, without a doubt, be the most important outline Mike has ever written- and will write- in his entire career as an author.
Right now, Mike clicks the “submit” button underneath the PROMPT HERE textbox with a little too much force and clamps his trembly hands together in faux-prayer over his laptop.
Inside, Mike’s heart pounds with a foreign feeling from so long ago; a feeling called hope.
Hope comes to him thirty minutes later in the form of a speech bubble.

1. Hawkins is still a shithole, instead of the upside-down, it’s just currently one hundred degrees (thirty seven in Celsius for my European ass) with a one hundred percent chance of repressed sexual tension.
2. Mike Wheeler is wearing a sailor hat and despises Max Mayfield.
3. Will Byers is drawing things on napkins that would give his mother a heart attack and his therapist a career. While he is on the job, mind you.
4. Dustin is receiving the worst romance advice in the history of the Midwest.
5. Everyone is either horny, high or just a straight up a little shit. But atleast they’re employed!
or: It’s the summer of '89 and everyone is behaving like they have exactly one (1) shared brain cell. It’s a retail war. It’s a disaster. And the only thing Mike and Will are successfully maintaining is a state of constant, mutual arousal.

He slid his free hand, sticky with fruit blood, up the column of Will’s neck. He gripped it. It was tighter than a friend should grip. It was possessive. He wrapped his fingers around Will’s throat, his thumb pressing into the pulse point.
The eye contact was insane. It was a physical tether.
"You want…" Mike’s voice was a wreck. A rasp. "… a strawberry?"
The tension in the room was high enough to shatter glass. And then, Will let out a wet, breathless chuckle.
"You’re an idiot," Will breathed.
The dream always starts the same way: with the weight of steel and the rustle of silk. In his sleep, Mike is a Paladin and Will is his light. In reality, Mike is an almost divorced academic from Indiana and Will is a cynical artist with wine stains on his chin and a cigarette between his lips. A weekend in the city was supposed to be a goodbye to the past. Instead, it becomes a messy, strawberry-sweet surrender to a hunger that seven years couldn't starve.
