"What about Nancy?" Dustin asks softly against his lips, and Steve knows he's not asking out of jealousy or resentment, but out of curiosity and a good dose of logic.
It's a logical question, considering how hard Steve was trying to get closer to Nancy, to win back the heart of someone who was never meant to be his... and whom Steve doesn't want to be his, because the person he wants is right in front of him, waiting for something Steve should have given him long ago.
He exhales softly with a small, sly smile, feeling a tenderness that almost makes his chest ache. He breathes against Dustin's lips, barely touching them, not yet kissing them, and as if his voice were touching something sacred, he murmurs:
"Turns out she was just my Tammy."
Or: As they prepare to return to the Upside Down, Steve and Dustin confess their feelings.

It had to be his own fault, surely. Maybe it was the way he couldn’t process death, and moved on like nothing happened the best he could, shoving mismatched items into that d20 shaped hole in his life that was Eddie Munson. Maybe, it was because Dustin could tell he’d just been plain jealous of all Eddie’s time spent in Steve’s shoes, being so wanted and cherished and needed by the younger. That was Steve’s job, didn’t Dustin know that?OR (I couldn't pick just one moment)
The flight of stairs before him turned to goo, falling down, down, down and forcing Steve’s mental mission to halt. He stepped back, his mouth agape and eyes wide, looking up to realize that the flights above them had also melted. His heart raced as he matched its pace, scrambling around to find a way up— any way up.

His mom and Jonathan have been having a hell of a time finding someone to babysit him while they’re both gone. It’s been very embarrassing, and Jonathan can tell that the lack of privacy has been driving Will crazy.
Will thinks that’s why Jonathan decides to throw him a bone.
He asks if Will would be okay if he took a nap for an hour or two? Will nods enthusiastically. He reiterates that Will can and should come get him for anything he needs. Will agrees.
Jonathan goes in his room and shuts the door.
And then Will makes a series of choices that are incredibly, incredibly dumb. “

There was so much to be said, to explain, but honestly he liked the moment of silence. He could tell she did, too. One small break before the battle continued.
“Do you think everyone else is okay?” She finally spoke up, eyes all soft with worry as she looked at him, looked right into him. It was one thing about El that was so intense, that made her like flames. She never looked away, stared right into his eyes whenever they talked.
Dustin swallowed the bite of jerky and nodded. “Yeah, yeah I bet they’re all kicking ass on the rightside up,” he tried to give her an encouraging smile, but her worried look hadn’t wavered, and he sighed. “We’ll get back to them in no time. You’re gonna see Mike again, El.” He tried to ignore the sting in his chest.
Only El frowned harder. Not what he’d been expecting.
