If those sewers were hell, then what was Derry? A town built right above the fire. Richie could still feel Eddie’s warm skin on his lips from where he’d pressed a desperate kiss against his cheek, hoping for something—anything—to pull him back.
Bill had Audra. Bev had Ben. Mike had the town.
Richie had the memories of Eddie.
Eddie didn’t have memories because he was fucking dead.
(I wrote this in 2018 before Cahpter 2 came out, so events are more based with the book)

They were sitting in silence for the first time in hours on some Nebraskan back road, the sun sinking low as Bill looked around the circle of the people who had shaped his entire life. They were older now—too old for the quarry, too old for the Barrens, but somehow even closer than they’d ever been.
Richie’s voice broke the quiet, soft and fond as he nudged the sleeping Eddie in his lap: “Remember when Eddie threw his fanny pack over the quarry?” Laughter rippled through the van, warm and familiar in the growing dark. Stories turned into confessions, teasing into tenderness, and Bill felt it settle in his chest—this messy, loud tangle of legs and blankets and love. It wasn’t Derry anymore. It was better. It was them.

“Oh, he doesn’t have a shirt,” Eddie says, breathless.
“Or puh-pants,” Bill responds, matter of fact and amused.
Eddie glances down as Bill says that and his face goes bright red. He also purses his lips, maybe to keep himself from saying anything, maybe to keep himself from insulting Richie.
“Wuh-we wanted to make shuh-sure that you were okay,” Bill starts, “I mean, according to Eddie, you left pretty suddenly this muh-morning, and if you’re sick we thought you might need some dinner, or your huh-homework from today, or something.”
“I don’t need my homework,” Richie blows out a puff of smoke to his left, and continues, “And I’m not sick.”
Richie glances over at Eddie for a second. He’s still just… staring at Richie’s bare legs. Okay, so that’s something to think about later, maybe.
“Okay, so what’s wrong with yuh-you?” Bill sort of impatiently asks. “We’re huh-here to help you Richie.”
Richie hesitates for a second. “…It’s kinda hard to explain.”
