It is because Gale Hawthorne - my best friend, my hunting partner, the boy who strains to keep me alive - killed his district partner in the Game.'Or - Gale goes to the Arena, and Katniss and Peeta never does, but they end up together, anyway. Summary
My uncle is the only living Victor in the District; as such, he is one of the few who never goes hungry. But, as I think about the mandatory Game to watch, I'm not envious of him. The Hunger Games is always bloody and horrific.
But even though Haymitch would have plenty to give, my father never asked him for anything. Which Gale knows very well.
'His brother' I correct Gale darkly. Whatever the conflict between my father and my uncle, my Dad considers him a full-fledged brother, even though their father is not shared. Which, again, Gale knows very well.Or, its a different universe, and Katniss's dad is alive. It helps some things, and some things are...dark as ever.

Summary
This is my 'Fathers of the multiverse' project, where I write little things, about dads who tried to protect their kids, their family, friends and loved ones. Good people, bad people, good dads, bad dads with a flicker of love, because we, as humans, are not perfect, but maybe, all of us have a moment of goodness in us. If I do my job right, there will be 1 for each day of the year for this series.
I will use returning characters, but also, if there's somebody you would want to read about, tell me, and I will do my best.
These are deliberately short, around a hundred words, maybe a little longer, but not much. If I don't choose the characters you would choose, I don't mean that as a personal insult, and I still hope you enjoy these stories.

Later Haymitch takes Katniss and Peeta to the Covey graveyard and Katniss presents Haymitch with the goose eggs. Katniss and Peeta also discuss if "this would have happened anyway."

Peeta is always proud to have me by his side, but it fills me with joy to be able to make a dream of his come true, however unlikely it may have seemed. We arrive at school ahead of schedule, just as intended, and make our way to the community center classroom. Signs are placed in the hallway welcoming us. Everyone involved with this program must be excited to see it commence.
Ten years after the 74th Hunger Games, a re-education program makes its way across the districts. Feeling inspired, Katniss signs herself, Peeta, and Haymitch up to finish their schooling.
