Henry has a choice to make the moment Lark stabs him. Time slows down and he gets glimpses of the future from the eyes of the Doodler. He sees all the destruction that releasing the entity will bring. In that moment he makes a decision: he will die with the Doodler inside him, splitting it apart so it won’t be strong enough to invade the world. This, however, is a moment not witnessed by anyone else, and to everyone in the room it looks as if Lark killed his father.

So maybe, it’s his own fault he’s here. Sure logically he made the call, asked for him, and then used his bus pass to ride here. Logically it was his feet that brought him walking into the concrete walls of the visitor center of the San Dimas Prison. It was him who sat down in the chair, him who nodded when the guards asked him if he was alright. It was him who stared as they let him into the room.
