As with many things in Lois Lane’s life, it starts with an anonymous tip.
It’s a Tuesday (because why wouldn’t it be, Troublesome Tuesdays are only outpaced by Weird Shit Wednesdays, as if the crazies like to take weekends off to plan) when a call comes into the Daily Planet’s hotline. She’s handed the slip after lunch. (Later, she’ll wonder why she got the call and not Clark. It’s one of the many things she never really gets an answer for.)

He closed his eyes briefly, breathed for a second, then opened them with a grin. “Holy shit,” he whispered excitedly, dancing around the room in a display that would probably have Dazai teasing him for years if he saw it. “I’m in Gotham.”
