    Summary

Sniffling, he squinted at the time, trying to ignore the irritating stuffiness making him breathe through his already dry mouth. The numbers swam together for a second before he remembered he had an alarm set when he had to get up for work. So, at least for now, he could wallow in bed for a while longer. It had been getting colder on the bus recently… so cold that he could feel it encroaching on him through the stiffness of his coat, weakly burrowing into the fabric until he closed his eyes for a second too long.

It didn't feel like he'd gotten any extra rest when the alarm screeched above his head. For a second he couldn't even place the noise, cringing back as the pain in his head flared, while his body took the chance to protest it's discomfort, unhappy to have been curled up so tightly for so long. Despite that, trying to get out of the warmth-conserving position he'd twisted into in the middle of the night was thwarted by the painful stiffness locking his joints in place.

A lose-lose. Or was it more like the sunk cost fallacy? It was too early to have to think about these kinds of things, especially when it felt like his brain was trying to leak out through his nose.
