Luca’s being bear-hugged by Rozanov from behind, so much so that his weight is nearly entirely supported by the man, his toes barely touching the ground. Luca’s laughing, the noise resembling something more of a giggle, as Rozanov peppers kisses on the side of his neck, then ears, nipping at the skin. “Hey,” he’s grumbling, a smile evident in his voice.
And Hollander. He’s off to the side, pausing from whatever task he’s doing to watch them. There’s nothing near shock, disgust. The sheer amount of adoration in his eyes is something they’ve only seen reserved for Rozanov— and.

“Hi,” Luca says, apologetic. “Sorry I’m late.”
Ilya turns his head, then blinks. Shane follows his line of sight, expression shifting.
There’s a sharp line of eyeliner across Luca’s waterline, smeared a little on the bottom. Under the lighting, the minuscule amount of white glitter dabbed at the corner and bottom of eyes twinkles. His shirt is tightly fit, a little sheer, cut off just above his black pants. There’s a line of skin between his shirt and pants, the smallest peek of a thin, black tattoo visible on his hip. Silver glints: there’s a bout of jewelry scattered across his body— earrings, a plastic Casio watch, a necklace hanging from his neck.
“You look like you could ruin someone’s life,” LaPointe blurts out.

In the ensuing scandal, he goes seventh overall, to Ottawa.

The moment I read this, I knew:
“Ilya?” Shane looks around the many tiny candles spread elegantly around the floor, bed and most other flat surfaces in the room. It’s a beautiful sight, especially with the way the warm light makes Ilya’s form glow almost ethereally in the dark, but Shane can’t help the way his body tenses with anxiety. “Are you trying to set the hotel on fire?” He hisses.
“Relax, Hollander.” Ilya huffs good-naturally. “They’re LED. Is safe.”

Ilya tsk’d in annoyance. “Don’t act like he didn’t take the opportunity to throw a punch,” he replied. “I saw you go after Marleau, too.”
“Well, I had to go after someone. I couldn’t just stand there why everyone was fighting and look like an idiot,” Shane responded with a shrug. “Besides, it was mild payback for him sending me to the hospital.”
“He said you fight like Pomeranian,” Ilya retorted with a straight face. “Puppy mitts that barely hurt.”

During their annual two weeks at the cottage, Shane and Ilya both fall ill (and claim the other is responsible for it) resulting in two days of coughing and chugging electrolytes while neither of them admit how bad they feel. Even though he attempts to hide it, Yuna can hear her son coughing over the phone and decides to go check on him during his yearly 'silent retreat', entirely unaware that he had company. Even with the blinds pulled closed to keep the lights out she could still see Ilya Rozanov in her son’s bed; arms wrapped around him tightly. They looked asleep. Not just napping but deeply unconscious.Yuna supposed that was the effect of the half empty bottle of Nyquil on the nightstand.
She swallowed harshly, stepping closer to the bed. Her son was tucked against Ilya, face buried against his neck as a source of warmth and comfort. “Shane...” she whispered, shaking him gently. “Shane.”
He didn’t stir, breaths steady as he slept like a rock. Her eyebrows knitted together, gaze shifting to Ilya, who had his jaw resting on top of Shane’s head, one of his hands under his shirt to feel his skin against his palm.

“If he’s all doped up, how come he’s still always such an asshole?” one of the rookies questioned, earning a few laughs.
Shane just felt sick to his stomach. And angry. At his team and Marlow and mostly at himself. Ilya had done exactly what he asked and now, he was getting mocked for taking care of himself. In what world was that fair?
“Maybe that’s why he’s so aggressive on the ice,” another theorized. “He's trying to kill himself and take another player with him to make it look like an accident.”
