The egg Eddie had reached for in the refrigerator slipped from his fingers and splattered onto the floor in a mess of shell fragments and yolk.
He backed away from the fridge and turned toward the kitchen sink, gripping the edge of it as though it would be the only thing to keep him from crumbling down to the floor, trying his hardest to control his breathing to no avail.
What's wrong with me? Eddie took a few gasping breaths. This has nothing to do with me. It's nothing.
Even as Eddie repeated those words to himself, it didn't stop the panic from seizing him.
Two different mornings on Eddie's birthday show two different versions of him.
In 2015, he was a broken man who didn't believe he deserved happiness. In 2026, happiness is waking up in the arms of the man he loves.

They'd gone to bed together, woken up to golden light slicing through the blinds, with Buck's body wrapped around his, and Eddie's nose tickled by soft, honey colored curls."
Or, Eddie thought keeping their new relationship a secret was the smart move...just until he and Buck figured it out. But it’s a lot harder to stay quiet when everyone keeps trying to set Buck up and strangers won’t stop flirting with him.

“Why are you saying that like it’s a bad thing?” Buck asks. It makes no sense. When he acts crazy and obsessive about Eddie it’s weird and can you please stop, but when he’s normal about him it’s are you okay. “Shouldn’t you guys be happy?”
“It’s just not… you.” She slumps back against the couch. “What happened to crazy girlfriend Buck?”
He has half a mind to be offended by the nickname, but he has to admit it is fairly accurate. Or was.
