Mike and Will bumped elbows as they walked down the hallways, headed to the back of the school where it would be easier to sneak out unnoticed.
"Do you want to.. talk about it?" Will hesitantly questioned. And Mike, he didn't know how to respond, what was there to talk about?
Mike settled with a small shake of his head and a weak sounding, "Not yet." to which Will nodded firmly, sending worried glances over to Mike every now and then.
Mike wanted more than anything to hold Will's hand, tell him that's he's ok, that he 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 be ok as long as they're together.
But he can't, and that hurts more than he'd like to admit. He wished things were different, he wished he was normal.
He wished Will was a girl, it'd be easier that way.

Mike breaks up with El and tries to accept his sexuality while dealing with an unrequited love for his best friend.

Throughout the day — from the arcade to the diner to a sleepover— Mike and Will cling to every quiet space they can find, trying to keep their growing feelings hidden in a town where secrets never last long.

Mike Wheeler can't stop staring at his best friend. Not only that, he can't stop finding opportunities to show physical affection. They have always been very close, but ever since Mike and El broke up, his friendship with Will blossomed.
Mike can finally admit to himself that he loves Will Byers, but it's difficult to hide his love when his best friend is so perfect and acts almost as if he likes him back. But no, they're just friends.
They're friends when Will comforts Mike about his breakup; they're friends when they sleep over after parties, cuddling; they're friends when the Party finds out that the head cheerleader has a crush on Will; and they're definitely friends when they get wasted and they make out. And no matter how much Mike wants to be more than friends, it will never happen. After waking up from a nightmare where he witnesses his Hellfire leader die, Dustin is quick to brush it off as coincidence. His traumatised brain conjuring up new tortures.
Until he dreams that Chrissy Cunningham - a girl he's never met but has heard whispers of in the halls - is crumpled up like paper and dies in the woods with Eddie Munson watching on helplessly. And then he wakes up and finds out, the next morning, that it actually happened.
Now he can't quite brush it off so easily.
He just has to find Eddie, defeat whatever evil force is at play once more in Hawkins, and get his body to stop feeling so much pre-emptive dread around people he cares about. Oh, and stop the nosebleeds.

Mike’s had a lifetime of experience pretending to be chill.
From a young age he’s learned that the easiest way to get by in life is by acting completely unaffected by everything. When you grow up in a small, judgmental town with the parents Mike has, it kinda comes with the territory.
So far it’s managed to work pretty well for him; after all, he’s made it through three years of high school with his body and his dignity mostly intact, and he’s got some pretty sick battle scars to prove it.
All of that seems to go out the window whenever it comes to Will.
So Mike does what he does best and tries to keep Will at an arm’s length, to keep him close but not that close, so that Will won’t be able to see through his poorly concealed thoughts and get scared off.
This time it’s different, though.
Things have changed, somehow, for some reason.

Mike has never been a jealous person. In fact, he prides himself on not being easy to read—that is, until Will comes out to him, and suddenly, the thought of him hanging out with other people forces Mike to confront the complicated feelings that he’s been running from before he loses Will for good.

After the Battle at Starcourt Mall Joyce and Hopper married, and the Byers-Hopper family move to Lenora Hills California on the US Government's dime.
Four years later the party is finally reuniting on a Summer trip to California and everyone is excited... except for Will.
Will feels a bit abandoned and forgotten by many of his friends- Dustin and Lucas hardly talk to him and only really talk about Hawkins when they do, and Mike stopped responding after 3 months into their move. Max, Robin and Steve are the only ones who have any sort of idea what is going on in his life now.
Feeling the absence of his childhood friends Will has moved on with his new friends in Lenora, discovering himself and becoming a person he was too afraid to let loose before.
But what will that leave in store with his childhood friends back in the picture? Is there anything that can even be done to restore some broken friendships? And what happens when new and old feelings come back to light?

Hawkins has been put in a complete lockdown following the infiltration of One through the bleeding of the Upside Down into the Rightside Up - while the train of Mike’s thoughts have been unleashed ferociously upon himself. Confusing thoughts and ideas - especially involving that of his best friend, girlfriend, and a particular painting - have pushed him somewhat distant from Will Byers and the others in the party. Through the months of quarantine, however, he attempts to strengthen the bond he shares with his first ever companion in order to protect him and the fate of the world from the grasp of Vecna - all the while navigating the halls, academics, and heartbreaks of his hectic junior year of high school.

“What did we do for Will’s birthday last year? I can’t remember.” Dustin queries, casually, causing Will to practically fold in on himself, as if trying to hide, or fade away completely. The sinking feeling turns into a pit of dread, as Mike racks his head for something, anything they did the prior March, a little less than a year ago.
“Oh my god…” He finds himself muttering, unintentionally, as he’s hit with the remembrance of his actions last year. The rest of the parties eyes snap towards him, their carefree faces beginning to morph into concern. “We didn’t do anything, did we?” He already knows the answer. He’s already recovered the memories that he had deliberately buried, to keep the guilt from eating him alive. He already knows how much of an asshole he is.
