Summary
Was…was Mike’s heart reacting to Will?
Mike isn’t looking at him. He’s staring hard at his cards as if he hasn’t seen them before, biting his inner cheek, and accentuating his dimple. As Will looks closer, he notices the pink shade spreading over the shell of Mike’s ear, the red emerging from the black curls like a rose sprouting from the earth.
Was Mike still nervous around him? Hadn’t they resolved that?
Will decides to test it. He leans onto the bed and rests a hand on Mike’s uninjured thigh, his thumb swiping side to side over the covers, and waits.
Mike's leg twitches into his hand, and barely a moment passes before the beeps speed up again, a rapid climb from steady to sprinting, and when Will looks, the blush has spread to Mike’s cheeks, his eyes unmoving and glued to his cards.
Oh. Will gapes at the monitor, the green spiking line. That's not discomfort.
Oh. He can have some fun with this.
Or: Mike, while protecting Will, gets attacked by a demogorgon. Guilt-ridden, Will stays with him in the hospital, forcing them to resolve the awkward air that has surrounded them for months, and, along the way, uncover some truths.

Summary
“Dance if you’re real.” Mike begs him. Whispering as if they could be overheard. His heart drums in his chest, each beat like a clap of thunder, and his stomach rolls as if he’s on a rollercoaster.
After a long, torturous moment, Will begins to sway again.
His arms lower to Mike’s waist. They wrap around like ribbons around a gift, and his palms feel giant as they curl around his sides. Mike feels small again, but not in the same way he felt around his dad or Henry. He melts into Will's embrace as it swallows him up, encasing him like a shield.
It’s just as Mike had pictured it years ago, when he’d watched Will dance with a girl and dreamed of switching their places.
Or: Mike is trapped in the thrall of Vecna's curse, and only Will can save him.

Summary
“I don’t think that it has to mean that you’re into guys,” Lucas says. His words are accompanied by a casual shrug, and said in the tone of someone who has clearly already given this subject some thought. Will doesn’t know what to do with that information. Jump from a building, maybe. “I mean, we’d all get flustered if Spider-Man carried us in his arms.”
Mike points to him enthusiastically. “Thank you, Lucas.”
Dustin looks between the two of them, his eyes narrowed.
“...Would we?”
“Sure,” Mike concludes. “He’s attractive. That’s not a weird thing to think.”
Will just barely resists the urge to bang his head against the table. He feels Dustin’s eyes glued to his burning face, and sinks even further down his chair.
In which Mike tells Spider-Man that he has a crush on his best friend, and Will jumps to some very wrong conclusions.

Summary
Mike pulls him into a hug instead.
It's tight and grounding and safe, and Will lets himself sink into it, lets himself pretend for just a moment that everything might actually be okay. Mike's arms are solid around him, one hand in his hair, and Will can hear his heartbeat, steady and sure.
"I'm not going to let him take you," Mike whispers against his hair. "I'm not going to let him use you. We're going to figure this out, okay? We're going to save those kids and stop Vecna and get him out of your head, and everything is going to be fine."
Somewhere between slaying interdimensional eldritch horrors, exploding an entire dimension, and risking their lives countless times, Mike and Will find each other.
Or; Season Five Volumes 2 and 3 retold so there's no plot holes, no bittersweet epilogue, and Mike and Will get their happy ending.

“Are you sure we should do this?” One man asks. “Yes, because if we don’t, we won’t be able to pull off the biggest queerbait since Klance!” The other responds, urgently. “I know, but our ratings will go down either way, Ross! We aren’t giving them closure on anything, we’re just destroying his character!” He responds. “Matt, you’re aware that my wife divorced me right? She wanted Byler, and after this, she won’t get it.” The other man responds. Mike is shaking, trying to not make a sound as to hear what the two men are talking about.
“Do you have the leucotome?” One of them asks. “Yup. Let’s get this show on the road.”
The door opened, revealing the two men. Mike shivered, breathing heavily.

Summary
Chronic Pain wasn’t new to Mike. Before or after the Upside Down, or Vecna, or the Mind Flayer.
Will was always there during a flareup. And he’s here now.
Mike didn’t want to wake him up, but like Will had a sixth sense, he’s awake, and taking care of Mike. All in the middle of the night.
