"Had fun?" Will asks playfully.
"Oh, yeah," Mike stretches sarcastically.
They stay like that for a little longer than necessary, then reluctantly separate, still looking at each other. Will can't hold the eye contact for long, and turns away, biting down a smirk.
"Goodnight, then," he breathes out.
"Yeah. Goodnight," Mike nods nervously and smiles. That same stupid dorky smile.

The Party have one last fun summer together before moving away, everyone is alive and happy and in love and stupid.

“It’s not pathetic,” Will interjects quickly, shaking his head, “It’s not—“
“It is, Will,” he hears Mike’s voice break over another hitched breath, “I know you’re… I just want you to be happy. I never want you to come back to Hawkins, but I’m fucking selfish. I’m so selfish, and I’m sorry.”
Will lets the tears spill over and he lets that want that’s always itching under his skin show itself.
“My whole life I’ve missed you every second you’ve been away from me,” Will confesses quietly into the receiver.
If you’re pathetic, I’m wretched.

Not long after the final battle, Mike and Will were inseparable– until Will moved out to New York.
Despite the weekly calls and the freedom of living their lives without terror, there’s no world in which they could last so long apart without it feeling like torture.
Will gets a call, and three days later, Mike is at his doorstep.
It only takes a day for them to fall back together again.

Mike is waiting for Will in the basement, a look of suspicious, nervous excitement on his face. He cleared the table and laid out upon it are two card games.
"Now, I know you’ll resist," Mike blurts out, stepping toward him. "But I think this will be good. For both of us! For when we... you know,” Mike trails off, “When we get partners.”
Will scoffs, stepping closer to inspect the titles.
Spill or Sip and Truth, Dare, or Strip.
Or: Mike suggests a spicy card game to help Will loosen up before college. It works a little too well, and suddenly they’re gambling with unresolved feelings, and clothes, that were meant to stay in place.

Will wishes that he could just melt all his features off his body. Melting the fat off his arms, leaving just muscle and bone behind. His legs just added the last bit of height. His face, melt the baby fat off his cheeks, reshape his every feature. And most of all, who he is as a person. To mold himself into the perfect person, change who he loves, and change what he likes. If only he could just change everything about himself. However, the struggle to accept himself highlights a deeper theme: the profound impact of bullying on identity and self-worth. Yet, amidst the haze of self-loathing, a flicker of hope quietly endures. He secretly dreams of a day when he will accept and embrace his true self. This ongoing tension between self-rejection and hope illustrates his desire for authenticity in the face of external and internal judgment. Perhaps one day he will defy the internal and external voices that demand his change and instead inspire others with his authentic self.

When Will gingerly peels the birthday card open, Mike’s uneven handwriting is displayed across the page.
The p’s in happy are backwards, the y wobbly and curled at the end, and the k in Mike is also flipped the wrong way. The word birthday is etched in their kindergarten teacher’s steady print, and it seems like she'd also added the punctuation for him.

Summary
This series is an alternate universe in which no supernatural things occurred (however, I do not explicitly state that none of the upside down things happened, and you can imagine that it did if you so choose). It focuses on Will's mental health, and Byler. There are also minor focuses on Will's friendship with Max and familial relationship with El. The series takes place over many years, but mainly focuses on the time when the kids of Stranger Things are in college.

Summary
“I just remembered,” Will says, grin growing wider, “I still haven’t read your most recent letter.”
“Oh, uhm, that’s ok, I mean, it can probably wait till later-”
Will is already sitting up though, making the insane choice of lifting his leg over Mike’s hip so that he’s straddling him- seriously, combustion imminent, Mike isn’t going to survive this- before reaching into the pocket of his jeans to get the letter out again. It’s gotten a bit rumpled but Will smoothes it out, using Mike’s chest as a surface. Under the thin paper and Will’s hands, Mike’s heart beats erratically. He stares at the ceiling and attempts to calm back down.
Then Will starts reciting, “My mom gave me a journal for my 13th-”
“Oh my god-” Mike interrupts, “You’re not going to read it out loud.”
Will frowns down at him, “Why not?”

As soon as that opening cleared for him, Will fumbled forward towards the concrete floor. He tensed up, shutting his eyes tight as he braced himself for impact. But it never came.
“Woah, are you okay?” came a voice from above him, unfamiliar to his ears.
Will was suddenly conscious of a strong arm wrapped around his waist as warm brown eyes stared down at him. He gulped. “Y-yeah, I’m good, thanks…” Will said nervously.
Said strong arms then lifted Will back to his feet like he weighed nothing, but their owner’s gaze and grip lingered, burning hot on Will’s skin. “Try and watch your step next time, pretty boy.”
Will decides to start a secret fling during spring break, and the whole Party starts freaking out about it. Try as they might to figure out who Will's new 'boyfriend' is, there's one thing they call all agree on: they can not tell Mike. Because if he finds out, it could spell disaster for all of them.
And they don't want to risk breaking poor Will Byers's heart.
