“You look like lost puppy.” Shane’s head whipped around quickly, eyes landing on exactly who he’d hoped to see again against his better judgement.

Shane shook his head slowly. No, he didn’t want to be followed. He wanted to do the following. Ilya took a step back. As he did, Shane stepped forward. A look of understanding dawned across Ilya’s eyes through the mask.

As they waited for Ilya’s car to be brought around Ilya turned to look at Shane once more, looking him up and down for the millionth time that night already. Shane, suddenly self conscious, looked anywhere but at Ilya’s eyes.
“Let me see,” Ilya said, stepping close to Shane. Shane looked around them, but no one was paying them any mind. Ilya’s hand gripped Shane’s chin, holding him still.
“See what,” Shane whispered.
“Freckles. They’re very pretty.” Shane liked how Ilya said the word pretty.
“No one’s ever said that to me before you.”
”No? I’m first?” Ilya’s thumb brushed across Shane’s cheek. Shane chased it, leaning into the touch. Ilya dropped his hand as his car came into view. Shane would have stayed like that, with Ilya’s hand cupping his face forever if he could. Ilya made him feel seen in a way very few had in the past.
